Lamb and Lawn Mowers

Shopping for kitchens, more re-writes and my overgrown garden have all come back to haunt me this weeekend. Kitchens at £15,000 - com'on, some one's having a laugh... The re-writes to Return to Denthan are becoming fun, thank goodness; and my garden... Well, lets just say I need to chop trees, cut ivy and strim like there's no tomorrow.
Going to settle down to a nice lamb curry and glass of Pinot Noir for now...Time to cook - it calms me down.

Lamb Curry - (cheat-style)
half pound of diced leg of lamb (£4 or so...)
tea spoon of olive oil
rock salt
black pepper
red onions x 2
yellow peppers x 2
Youngs authenic curry powder (in mmost butchers) half a pack
fresh corriander

heat pan
add oil and onions
after 5 mins add lamb
after 3 mins add curry powder
stir all the lumps out of the powder
add half pint of milk
stir until thickens - simmer for ten mins

serve with long grain rice and pitta bread

plus large glass of Pinot Noir (Argentinian)

Still laid up and...

Got my blood results back... mmm... Too much bad fat so... I'm going to keep to a more healthy diet. You see, you get good fat and bad fat, and at the moment my bad fat is winning 4:1. Not good. So the good fats like - olive oil, fish oil etc have to replace chocolate, chips and butter. Not that I thought I over indulged too much, but I was reminded that I do have the odd binge on Ferrero Rocher and Thornton's Aplini.

Getting hungry again, so here's another one of my recipes... Quick, easy and healthy.

Chicken and Chilli Soup

1 x cup of chicken bits (cooked)
1 x leek (chopped and washed)
1 x pint of waterChilli seeds (pinch)
teaspoon of tumeric
1 x Chicken stock cube

Put a little olive oil in pan
add leeks, tumeric, chilli and stock cube
mix round with wooden spatula
add chicken bits
add water and bring to boil
reduce heat and let simmer for ten minutes

Serve in nice wee white bowls with chinese spoons

Job Done!

Feeling better already.

Off with Nastychestycough - plus recipe for prawns

Yes, that nasty Russian ice-skater got hold of me again. So here I am, watching the rain pour down on the monkey puzzle tree, cuddled up to my flat coat retriever, Betsy. I've written up another ten pages of book three and I'm thinking about the future...

1. I need to take my wife away somewhere nice.
2. I need to get rid of this bug - should do No 2 first , really.
3. I need to get on a mainstream publisher's radar. The books are selling every day on Amazon and beginning to bring some dosh in. Could do better, though, if I had more reach and the book was cheaper.
4. Need to get back into the school visit mode.
5. Need to rehearse new rock songs for Saturday's gig. If my lung infection permits.
6. Looking forward to the Wigtown Book Festival and Frankfurt.

Getting Hungry... Here's a wee recipe...

Prawns in garlic (not for those who may soon have -an important interview / an intimate chat / a long snogging session in mind.)

12 x uncooked tiger prawns (the grey squidgy ones)
four cloves of garlic
olive oil x 2 table spoons
salt
chili flakes
black pepper
red onions
pitta bread (wholemeal)

Slit each prawn along its spinal chord.
Place in sizzling oil plus onions (chopped)
throw in salt, chilli and pepper

put frozen pita bread in toaster.

serve with a huge glass of Montagany Premier Cru.

Job done.

The author game is very tricky. I mean, you have to write 2-3 novels per year; be prepared to entertain 120 children per day and still be nice to your own family. I mean... Trying my best and stuff but I tend to get a little grumpy from time to time. Asthma UK are looking at a school project for the Denthan Series in the fall, and it sounds as if there may be even more children totempt over to the dark side soon. You know, it is truely magical when you get 30 children shouting out new monster names and then drawing pictures after readings and even forming stories. The Magic Scales is selling well enough but I'm told I have to push the second book - The Second Gateway, much more in sessions. Nag, nag, nag... The Publisher is also bullying me into finishing the final Denthan book by Xmas. I mean...

As an author, you also have to be very nice, nay diplomatic to people, especially if they run festivals or own a book shop. I fear I may have opened my gob a bit too much this week. Honesty and diplomacy are not the best of bed fellows...

eek!

Sam.
